The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Roy L. Dupuis (ASN: 36824897), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 595th Motor Ambulance Company. On 29 May 1945, near Perlsreut, Germany, Private Dupuis was one of a group of soldiers swimming in a swiftly moving mountain stream. When one of his comrades was seized with severe cramps in deep water he unhesitatingly went to the rescue and with utter disregard for his own safety towed the drowning man to shore. Private Dupruis’ heroic, unselfish actions reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
