The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Roland L. Dupont (ASN: RA-11183556), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950. in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. On that date his battalion was ordered to attack and neutralize enemy roadblocks which had been established on our main supply route and which were endangering the withdrawal of the entire division. Sergeant Dupont, a squad leader of the battalion Ammunition and Pioneer Platoon, was with the foremost assault elements. Upon contact with the enemy he immediately deployed his squad to a defense line better suited to repel the assaults of the numerically superior enemy. Although the area was covered by intense hostile mortar and automatic weapons fire he continually moved among his men, exhorting them to stand fast and directing their fire. He ordered his men to move about to draw the enemy’s fire away from the units which were then moving through the roadblock in motorized columns. As a result of his heroic and inspiring leadership his squad inflicted heavy casualties upon the enemy and materially aided his unit in accomplishing its mission. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Sergeant Dupont reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
