The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Orvis G. Dunbar (ASN: RA-35826549), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the night of 14 February 1951, near Chunjang-ni, Korea, while defending Hill 151, Company B was attacked by a numerically superior enemy force. Directing accurate automatic weapons fire into the advancing enemy ranks, Corporal Dunbar diverted four successive enemy attempts to take the position. While his unit was withdrawing from the hill to more tenable positions, Corporal Dunbar stayed and covered the withdrawal with accurate fire. When his platoon reorganized for a counterattack, he courageously remained to aid the wounded and again risked his life to act as a rear guard while the counterattack was in progress. At dawn the next morning, while the platoon aid man was caring for the wounded, Corporal Dunbar cleared the hill of the remaining enemy snipers. The outstanding gallantry and perseverance displayed by Corporal Dunbar reflects great credit upon himself and exemplify the high traditions of the military service.
