The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Roscoe Dudley (ASN: RA-38488932), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 77th Engineer Combat Company, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 2 September 1950, near Haman, Korea, when his company was attacked by superior numbers of hostile troops and withdrawal to a new position had been ordered, Master Sergeant Dudley and a small group of men became separated from their unit. Seizing an enemy automatic rifle, he effectively directed its fire at the onrushing enemy to break through their lines, lead his men from the hill, and fought through several engagements with the enemy to reach a friendly unit. Master Sergeant Dudley’;[s conspicuous courage and outstanding leadership reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
