The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Arthur J. Dube (ASN: RA-11189951), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 July 1951 in the vicinity of Chajakchong, Korea. On this date Corporal Dube was attached to Company C as a forward observer for the 81-mm. mortars. Due to the intense enemy fire, friendly units were forced to withdraw. When some fourteen wounded men were unable to move to positions of safety, due to intense enemy fire, Corporal Dube called for covering fire while he and two comrades proceeded to aid the wounded men. With his comrades, he carried two of the wounded men, who were unable to walk, to a safe position and returned to act as a rearguard while the remainder made their way to the company’s new position. The gallantry and devotion to duty and comrades displayed by Corporal Dube on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
