The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Oscar Driggers (ASN: ER-34384941), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Pungehon-ni, Korea. On that date, while resting during a lull in enemy attacks, Private Driggers noticed a movement in a ditch 100 yards to his immediate front. With a comrade, he immediately moved toward a ditch, using marching fire to protect himself, while completely exposed and ignoring his own safety. Advancing boldly upon the hostile strongpoint, he killed three of the enemy and captured nine, including an officer, besides capturing a machine gun. The gallantry in action and utter fearlessness demonstrated by Private Driggers reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
