The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Roscoe Dozier, Jr. (ASN: RA-15425266), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 and 15 February 1951, in the vicinity of Majong-ni, Korea. On that date Company F had the mission of setting up defensive positions on a vital hill. During the preparation for the defensive, the company was suddenly attacked by a numerically superior enemy who attacked with such force as to compel the company to take a tactical withdrawal. With utter disregard for his own safety, Corporal Dozier volunteered to act as point man for his squad. An enemy automatic weapon halted the advance of the squad. With supporting fire from his squad, Corporal Dozier circled around the enemy position and completely destroyed it with hand grenades. This action enable the company to advance and retake the hill. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Dozier reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
