The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edgar A. Dorman (35317024), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Munda, New Georgia, Solomon Islands, on 19 July 1943. When the advance party of an infantry company was ambushed as it moved along the Zanana Trail, a machine gun to the front of the troops had inflicted several casualties and the wounded were lying helpless in the direct path of fire. In plain view of the enemy, Private Dorman ran forward to administer medical treatment. He disregarded his own safety and sacrificed his life in calmly aiding the wounded while exposed to a spray of machinegun fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
