The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Air Corps) Glenn A. Doolittle (ASN: 0-395288), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action while serving as Pilot of a B-25 Mitchell Bomber of the 77th Bombardment Squadron, 28th Bombardment Group (Composite), ELEVENTH Air Force, in aerial operations against the enemy in the Territory of Alaska, on 30 December 1942. Regardless of the severity of the enemy fire and despite the fact that his plane was hit repeatedly, Captain Doolittle pressed his attack successfully. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Doolittle, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
