The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant George C. Abbott (ASN: 2216261), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fey-en-Haye, France, 12 September 1918. Sergeant Abbott saved the life of a soldier who was directly under the fire of an enemy machine gun by rushing the gun, killing the gunner, and capturing the gun. His gallant conduct inspired the men of his platoon to continue the advance.
