The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Arthur Aamot (ASN: 84000), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Juvigny, France, 29 August 1918. Sergeant Aamot had sought cover in a shell hole, after a difficult advance in the face of heavy machine-gun fire, when he observed distress signals from a tank nearby, on which concentrated artillery and machine-gun fire was being directed by the enemy. Leaving his shelter, Sergeant Aamot proceeded through the fire to the tank, where he found a wounded man, whom he courageously carried to safety.
