Department of the Army, General Orders No. 58 (August 30, 1948)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) George B. Dolliver, Jr. (ASN: 0-1320695), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Saipan on 21 June 1944. While moving through heavily wooded valleys, the 1st Battalion was met with enemy machine gun fire. Lieutenant Dolliver quickly organized a squad of men and led them to the top and rear of the enemy position. After his squad was wiped out, he continued to creep and crawl closer to the enemy, knocking out two enemy machine gun emplacements with hand grenades and rifle fire and disorganizing the remainder of the enemy. His efforts enabled the battalion to move forward and set up a defensive perimeter before dark. Lieutenant Dolliver’s courageous leadership was an inspiration to his men.
