The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel Michael L. Jones, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States while serving in positions of increasing trust and responsibility from 1 February 1998 to 31 January 2008, culminating as the Director of Admissions, United States Military Academy. He achieved an unparalleled level of excellence in every facet of his professional life. He inspired future generations of leaders to follow their call to duty by encouraging them to apply to West Point. Colonel Jones’ significant contributions directly led to an increase in the applicant pool while simultaneously streamlining costs through innovative marketing and recruiting approaches. His unwavering and steady efforts successfully enabled 10,000 graduates to enter the Army as Commissioned Officers. Colonel Jones’ outstanding performance of duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the United States Military Academy, and the United States Army.
