The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fourth Grade Ted L. Folsom (ASN: 20760209), United States Army, for heroism while serving with the 35th Infantry Division near ****, Germany, on 20 February 1945. When a comrade’s gasoline soaked clothing was accidentally ignited, Sergeant Folsom tried without success to remove the man’s shirt, then extinguished the blaze by wrapping the flam-enshrouded soldier in a blanket. He then assisted his comrade to the aid station for medical treatment, and was himself treated for first, second and third degree burns on his hands and wrists. Sergeant Folsom’s presence of mind and disregard for personal safety resulted in saving a comrade from almost certain death.
