Dillard (ASN: 0-60564), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 14 and 15 September 1950 near Haman, Korea, Lieutenant Dillard and a group of 40 men remained in position to stem an overwhelming attack by a large hostile force. Joining the fire fight and moving among his men to aid the wounded and direct the defense, he inspired the group to inflict heavy casualties on the fanatic force and to withstand repeated banzai attacks. Lieutenant Dillard’s gallant leadership and determined will to victory are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
