The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Harry M. Dickman (ASN: 0-419547), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, from 13 to 24 March 1944. Captain Dickman secured the aid of litter squads and advanced in the face of intense enemy small arms and mortar fire to rescue wounded soldiers on several occasions. His aggressive actions aided materially in saving the lives of many wounded men and his willingness to face danger was an inspiration to all. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Dickman, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
