The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal William B. Dick (ASN: RA-18352745), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, near Sinch’on-ni, Korea, on 3 June 1951. His company was advancing toward a steep hill which was defended by a well-entrenched, numerically superior enemy force when it was suddenly pinned down by heavy enemy small arms, grenade and automatic weapons fire. With utter disregard for his own safety, he advanced in the face of heavy fire until he reached a position from which he could direct his squad and give them covering fire. While performing his self-appointed mission, he was mortally wounded by enemy rifle fire. Through his courageous action, the squad advanced and successfully completed its mission. Corporal Dick’s courageous action and deep devotion to duty reflect the highest credit on himself and the United States Infantry.
