The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry), [then Warrant officer Junior Grade] Robert G. Deuell (ASN: 0-1300140), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During an attack on his company near Haman, Korea, on 28 August 1950, Captain Deuell left his position of comparative safety to deliver ammunition to the front line units. Repeatedly exposing himself to the intense hostile fire, he moved about the area distributing ammunition to each individual. When one of the platoon leaders was severely wounded, he assumed command of the platoon and led it until the attack was repulsed. Captain Deuell’s courageous devotion to duty and outstanding leadership are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
