The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Librado Dena (ASN: RA-18319882), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, during an attack on well-fortified enemy positions, Company K encountered heavy enemy resistance. In the initial assault Sergeant Dena was wounded by enemy fire but he refused to be evacuated. He remained with his men and with complete disregard for his own safety, led his squad in an assault on the enemy positions using marching fire and grenades. Continually exposing himself to enemy fire, Sergeant Dena destroyed an enemy machine gun emplacement while inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Dena on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
