The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Ramon DeLeon (ASN: RA-25857478), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date during Company I’s assault upon enemy positions, Corporal DeLeon was serving in the capacity of a wireman for the mortar section. Despite the intense small arms and automatic weapons fire he laid communication wire from the supporting mortar section to the forward observer’s position. On numerous occasion, when fire from hostile emplacements halted his advance, Corporal DeLeon assaulted these bunkers and destroyed them with his rifle and grenades, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. In the course of this action, he noticed a wounded comrade lying exposed to the intense hostile fire. Disregarding his own safety, he immediately went to the aid of the wounded man and after administering first aid, carried him to a position of safety. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Corporal DeLeon on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
