The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) Frederick J. de Rohan (ASN: 0-4558), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On 10 November 1942, Colonel de Rohan assumed personal command of the assault force of his combat team, which captured the strong fortification known as the Kasba at Mehdia, Morocco. Colonel de Rohan distinguished himself in action against an armed enemy, acting with utter disregard for his own personal safety. Under intense machine gun, mortar and light artillery fire, he coordinated the assault with the attack of naval bombardment aircraft and self-propelled artillery. The fortification was taken by storm, thus opening the Oued Sebou. Colonel de Rohan’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
