The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant [then Sergeant First Class] Isaac W. Davis (ASN: RA-44186744), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 20 May 1951, near Koyang-san, Korea, Sergeant Davis voluntarily led his squad against the well-entrenched enemy who had succeeded in pinning down a friendly rifle platoon. Preceding his men through withering automatic weapons fire to a position within 50 yards of the hostile machine gun nests, he, with complete disregard for his safety, single-handedly assaulted the hostile emplacements with grenades and bayonet, killing six enemy soldiers and wounding several others. Sergeant Davis’ courageous actions so inspired the men of his squad that they quickly followed in the assault, neutralizing the remaining enemy positions and allowing the platoon to continue its advance. The gallantry, aggressiveness, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Sergeant Davis reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
