The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Harold F. Davis (ASN: RA-14339917), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Pungehon-ni, Korea. During a fierce enemy attack the wire line to the battalion observation post was destroyed, and the artillery observer, who was relaying messages to the rear, no longer could supply artillery support. Private Davis voluntarily left his covered position and, with a comrade, went out into the intense hail of enemy small arms, automatic weapons, grenade, and mortar fire, and restrung the line, restoring vital communications with the observation post, and allowing the resumption of close supporting artillery fire. The gallantry displayed by Private Davis reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
