Burke, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander, 18th Air Support Group, and Air Liaison Officer, XVIII Airborne Corps, Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina, from 22 April 1992 to 31 August 1993. During this period, Colonel Burke’s exemplary ability, diligence, devotion to duty and leadership skills were instrumental in the establishment of the 18th Air Support Group and its superb performance in support of the XVIII Airborne Corps mission. He spearheaded the development of procedures that allow the headquarters staff of 18 people to accomplish duties previously done by a wing of 40 people. The detachments under Colonel Burke’s guidance are always ready to meet the challenge – whether providing support for relief efforts following Hurricane ANDREW and in Somalia or training for combat contingencies. Action Date:

    April 3 – 6, 1972

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain Robert F. Burke, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the 1st Special Operations Squadron in Southeast Asia from 3 April 1972 to 6 April 1972.
