The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Charles H. Davidson (ASN: 0-1342324), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, displayed gallantry in action against the enemy near Chipyong, Korea, on 13 February 1951. On that date he was a platoon leader in an infantry company in a defensive position, when the enemy launched an attack. In order to prevent the enemy from surrounding the unit’s position, he immediately obtained a box of hand grenades, and went from one fox-hole to another issuing each man a grenade. In doing so, he was wounded by fragments of an enemy grenade, but continued his efforts. Upon completion of the distribution, he returned to the platoon command post and was ordered to go to the aid station, but chose to return to his men. He left his command post and assisted in directing a halftrack to a position from which it could place effective fire upon the hidden enemy, thereby preventing them from overrunning the unit’s position. The gallant conduct displayed by Lieutenant Davidson on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
