Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 135 (May 20, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Dominic P. Danzi (ASN: RA-6152518), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On the night of 13 May and during the early morning hours of 14 May 1953, Sergeant Danzi was a member of a patrol of Company I, 3d Battalion, which was assigned the mission of intercepting enemy patrols in the vicinity of Nocado, Korea, to inflict casualties and capture prisoners for intelligence purposes. Prior to reaching the scheduled check points, the patrol was ambushed by a concealed hostile group. Quickly evaluating the situation, Sergeant Danzi dispersed his men, returned fire, and called for immediate mortar support, forcing the enemy to withdraw. After fire had been lifted, he screened the area with negative results and quickly reorganized his men. Upon hearing noises in the distance, he exposed himself to draw enemy fire and locate their positions. With the enemy in view, he accurately fired his carbine and mortally wounded many of the foe. By diverting enemy attention to himself, he enabled his men to effectively add their fire to his own. As a result of his actions, the hostile forces were compelled to withdraw without their dead, wounded, and equipment, and the lives of many friendly soldiers were saved. Sergeant Danzi’s outstanding gallantry, initiative and untiring devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
