The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain George B. Daniels (ASN: 0-534199), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, Air Section, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 October 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date Captain Daniels, a liaison pilot, was flying his plane in direct support of an infantry battalion engaged in combat with a numerically superior enemy force. His mission was to lay communication wire from the air. Although his assignment involved tremendous risk, he fearlessly proceeded to execute the mission. Throughout this operation Captain Daniels flew his plane at an extremely low altitude to insure that the wire would be dropped in the prescribed areas. Not only was he unconcerned with the devastating concentration of hostile fore directed at his plane, but he completely ignored the mountainous terrain which could easily have resulted in an air crash. With dauntless courage and great skill Captain Daniels maneuvered his plane and successfully accomplished his mission. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty shown by Captain Daniels on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
