The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Emanuel P. Cutillo (ASN: RA-12340423), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When a battalion aid station was overrun in the vicinity of Unsan, Korea, on 27 November 1950, Private First Class Cutillo established an improvised medical facility to care of the wounded of three infantry companies. Heedless of the deadly fire to which the area was being subjected he cared for the casualties and supervised their evacuation to less exposed positions. On one occasion he shielded a wounded man during a particularly heavy barrage. His selfless regard for the welfare of the wounded was a source of constant inspiration to his comrades. Private First Class Cutillo’s courage, resourcefulness and unflagging devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army Medical Service.
