The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Anthony F. Cuticchia (ASN: RA-11184147), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 29 March 1951, near Kwangam-ni, Korea, Private Cuticchia, a medical aidman attached to Company B, 1st Battalion, was occupying a defensive position on Hill 305, when it was suddenly blanketed by enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire, inflicting several casualties. Despite the heavy enemy fire, Private Cuticchia voluntarily moved among the infantrymen, administering first aid and alleviating the suffering of the wounded. During the firefight, he noticed a wounded soldier lying in an exposed area on the hill and unable to find cover. Displaying exceptional courage, he voluntarily dashed across the open terrain, administered first aid, and then carried the stricken soldier to a position of cover where the man could be evacuated. Private Cuticchia’s gallant actions were instrumental in saving his wounded comrade’s life and reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
