The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Alexander U. McHale, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company H, 26th Michigan Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia. Corporal McHale captured a Confederate color in a charge, threw the flag over in front of the works, and continued in the charge upon the enemy.
