The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) James D. Currie (ASN: 0-2262274), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, [then Company F], 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 November 1950, in the vicinity of Kujang-dong, Korea. Lieutenant Currie’s platoon was ordered to reinforce Company G in an attack on Hill 326. Under constant enemy machine gun fire and hand grenade explosions, he aligned his platoon with the assault platoon. When the attack came he led his men in the face of the murderous enemy fire. Although wounded, Lieutenant Currie continued to lead his men. When the company was ordered to withdraw, he made sure that all his wounded men were evacuated safely. The gallant conduct and inspiring leadership displayed by Lieutenant Currie reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
