The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Horace E. Curran (ASN: RA-20135032), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. While leading the main body of his platoon in an attack up a steep hill near Uinyeng, Korea, on 26 September 1950, Master Sergeant Curran observed a group of enemy about to flank his advance guard and cut it off from the main body. Advancing alone, across open areas which were under hostile observation and fire, he intercepted the enemy, killed three and set the others to flight. He then returned to lead the platoon in completion of its mission. Master Sergeant Curran’s courage, military ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
