The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Daniel Croyle (ASN: RA-16364459), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. In the early morning hours of 26 November 1952, Corporal Croyle and three other members of Company K were assigned the mission of protecting the left flank of friendly positions on “Jackson Heights”, in the vicinity of Hak Tong-Ni, Korea. While defending the objective, the friendly elements were subjected to an intense attack by hostile forces. Corporal Croyle remained in his position and accurately and effectively fired into the charging foe, inflicting numerous casualties. Although wounded, he refused to leave his position until ordered to do so. As a result of his action, the friendly forces were protected from encirclement. Corporal Croyle’s outstanding gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
