Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 367 (November 20, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Thomas N. Cox (ASN: RA-13339836), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 18 September 1950, when he learned that all the members of a 57-mm. gun crew in position on the company defended perimeter near Hanan, Korea, had become casualties, Corporal Cox immediately made his way forward through the heavy enemy fire to the front line position and manned the weapon. Continuing to lead and fire the gun despite the hail of hostile fire which shot away parts of his equipment and clothing, he delivered accurate fire at the attacking horde to help an attempted flank penetration and thereby assisted greatly in the repulsion of the attack. Corporal Cox’s exemplary devotion to duty and conspicuous bravery reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
