The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Robert H. Cox (ASN: RA-19323369), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 28 March 1951 in the vicinity of Sinse-gol, Korea. Sergeant Cox’s platoon was ordered to seize a high hill which was defended by a well-entrenched and concealed enemy. Although air strikes and artillery concentrations had failed to dislodge the enemy from his positions, Sergeant Cox aggressively led his assault squad forward. As they neared the crest of the hill, the enemy brought heavy automatic weapons and grenade fire upon the squad. Completely disregarding his personal safety and daringly braving the hostile fire, Sergeant Cox led his squad in a charge with fixed bayonets. routing the numerically superior enemy from their positions and inflicting heavy casualties upon them, the squad succeeded in capturing the vital commanding terrain, The gallantry and bold leadership displayed by Sergeant Cox reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
