Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 81 (August 25, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Harold E. Copsy (ASN: 0-1307374), United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in Korea. On 24 July 1950, enemy tanks overran the forward positions near Yongdong, Korea, and advanced toward the mortar positions of Company D. Lieutenant Copsy, who was directing the mortar fire despite heavy enemy artillery concentrations, calmly directed mortar fire at the advancing tanks which were firing directly into the company positions. When the tanks threatened to overrun the mortar positions, Lieutenant Copsy led an enlisted man with a 3.5 rocket launcher to a point within a few yards of the lead tank and disabled it with rocket fire. Lieutenant Copsy’s courage and exemplary leadership enabled the company to repel the enemy attack and reflect the highest credit on himself and the military service.
