The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Jean Joseph Coppier, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious service and gallantry from January to November 1944. With utter disregard for his personal safety during military and clandestine operations against the enemy, he organized and operated an intelligence network in occupied territory. Through his indomitable energy and inspired leadership, he succeeded in securing and transmitting valuable information which contributed greatly to the success of Allied operations against hostile forces. Major Coppier’s initiative, courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit on himself and the military service.
