The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Jules Joseph Constantin, Jr. (ASN: 0-427303), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with a B-25 Mitchell Bomber of the 77th Bombardment Squadron, 28th Bombardment Group (Composite), ELEVENTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the Aleutian Campaign, Territory of Alaska, on 30 December 1942. In the face of concentrated antiaircraft fire and repeated attack by enemy fighters, Lieutenant Constantin pushed his attack against Japanese shipping in Kiska Harbor, notwithstanding the fact that his ship had been repeatedly hit. The attack completed he was shot down in flames by enemy fighters. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Constantin, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
