The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Thomas E. Colvin (ASN: RA-12285536), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Kunmul-gol, Korea. On that date a numerically superior enemy had forced his company to withdraw from its positions. Sergeant Colvin was carrying a wounded comrade when daylight came and he suddenly realized the whole area was in the. Hands of the attacking enemy. He hid his comrade in a creek bed and comforted him throughout the day. All the while enemy patrols passed near the pair, the two escaping them only by pretending to be dead. Toward dusk, Sergeant Colvin and his comrade were looted by four enemy soldiers. As the marauders passed on, Sergeant Colvin grabbed his carbine from under him and in few bursts killed all four of the enemy. He then assisted his wounded comrade to friendly lines under cover of darkness and safely delivered him to an aid station. The gallantry and selfless devotion to a wounded comrade displayed by Sergeant Colvin reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
