Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 2 (January 2, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Jesse F. Coleman (ASN: 0-2004110), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 22 November 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, North Korea. On that date, Lieutenant Coleman was serving as a Patrol Leader of a group engaged in an assault on Hill 200. During the course of the action the Radio Man was seriously wounded. Lieutenant Coleman immediately manned the radio and maintained contact with the company, while exercising complete control over his patrol. Due to the increased volume of enemy fire directed upon them he then ordered the patrol to the base of the hill for the purpose of regrouping. Discovering that several members of the patrol were missing, Lieutenant Coleman, with complete disregard for personal safety, immediately went back up the hill, in the face of intense enemy small arms, mortar and artillery fire to assist his wounded comrades. With the aid of other members of the party he returned the wounded to the safety of friendly lines. Through his cool and courageous actions, the patrol was able to return to friendly lines with a minimum of casualties. The heroism in action displayed by Lieutenant Coleman reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
