The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Russell V. Claymiller (ASN: RA-16333099), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Panmegri-ri, Korea. On that date a strong enemy force attacked the positions of his company and the men of the company retired to establish a perimeter from which to hold off the enemy. While engaging in the withdrawal one man was wounded in both legs and could not reach the new positions. Private. Claymiller, though wounded himself, exposed himself to heavy enemy fire in order to assist the man to safety and also gave aid to several other wounded comrades. The gallantry and loyal devotion to his comrades demonstrated by Private Claymiller reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
