The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Marion L. Clary (ASN: RA-39126576), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 October 1951 in the vicinity of Mundung-ni, Korea. On this date, during an attack on heavily fortified enemy-held positions, Private Clary displayed dauntless courage and cool behavior before the enemy. Advancing under the heavy hostile small arms and machine gun fire, he succeeded in inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy forces and destroyed many of their emplacements with grenades and rifle fire. During the ensuing action Private Clary was painfully wounded but, disregarding his wounds, he continued his actions, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy, until he was fatally wounded by enemy fire. His dauntless courage and self-sacrificing devotion to duty were an inspiration to the men of his unit and aided immeasurably to the success of his unit’s mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Clary reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
