The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Robert L. Clark (ASN: RA-43008871), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 12 May 1951, in the vicinity of Anhyon, Korea. Company B was ordered to assault and secure Hill 699. Sergeant Clark, a platoon sergeant, was with the forward elements when intense enemy fire halted the company’s advance. A skirmish line was formed and Sergeant Clark, disregarding personal safety, exposed himself to the intense enemy fire by running along the skirmish line encouraging the men as they started the assault. When one of the automatic riflemen was wounded, Sergeant Clark seized his comrade’s weapon and, assaulting the hostile positions with marching fire, destroyed a machine gun by his fearlessness. The rest of the platoon, inspired by his bravery, advanced on the enemy positions , inflicting numerous casualties on the enemy force. Sergeant Clark’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
