The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Henry David Clark (ASN: RA-12280729), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date friendly units were under heavy enemy concentrations and all communications to adjoining companies were cut off. Realizing that these lines had to be restored in order that his unit might operate effectively, Private Clark, a wireman, volunteered to repair the damaged wire. Disregarding the intense enemy fire which was directed at him, he continued in search for the faulty wire. Private Clark found the break in the telephone line, but while repairing it he was fatally wounded by enemy rifle fire. His courageous actions were an inspiration to his comrades, and enabled them to repair the damaged line. The gallantry in action and self-sacrificing devotion to duty displayed by Private Clark on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
