The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Albert P. Clark (ASN: 0-2200012), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery A, 90th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When the battery position was attacked on 11 August 1950 by numerically superior enemy forces in the vicinity of Pongam-ni, Korea, Lieutenant Clark, remaining in an exposed position personally directed such devastating artillery fire that the enemy were forced to withdraw. On 12 August 1950 when the battery was again attacked by an overwhelming hostile force, Lieutenant Clark deployed a section of the battery into defensive positions and, heedless of the withering fire, moved from position to position encouraging the men and directing their fire until he was seriously wounded. His courageous actions inspired the men to great effort and enabled them to contain the attack for six hours. Lieutenant Clark’s exemplary bravery, steadfastness and selfless devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
