(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class John W. “Jackie” Christensen (ASN: RA-28715040), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy on 5 August 1950 while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, near Chungam-ni, Korea. His company was overrun by the enemy and Private First Class Christensen’s position was isolated. He remained in his foxhole, directing fire and throwing hand grenades at the numerically superior forces. Although wounded and finally surrounded by the enemy, he continued the fight until he was killed. His gallant and heroic and heroic action inspired his fellow soldiers to greater effort. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
