Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 576 (October 6, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Santos Chiwiwi (ASN: US-54029988), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date, as the company started out its assault on well fortified enemy positions, Private Chiwiwi was sent forward as a scout to seek a route of approach for his squad. While on this mission, under intense enemy fire, Private Chiwiwi sighted four of the enemy waiting in ambush. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he assaulted them with fixed bayonet and marching fire. He succeeded in destroying them, and as a result, his unit was able to advance and secure its objective. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Chiwiwi reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
