The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Nemecino L. Casias (ASN: RA-17263237), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Kunmul-gol, Korea. Corporal Casias was moving forward with his company on a mission to drive the enemy from the ridges along the path of advance. Suddenly a numerically superior enemy force brought intense small arms and automatic weapons fire upon them which forced the advance to a halt. Hearing calls from wounded for aid, Corporal Casias without regard for his own safety voluntarily dashed into the hail of enemy bullets and administered first aid to the wounded. Five times he exposed himself to the withering hostile fire as he returned five wounded soldiers to the rear for treatment. The gallantry and loyal devotion to his comrades displayed by Corporal Casias reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
