The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Lloyd Albert Case (ASN: US-52003111), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 October 1951, near Chorwon, Korea, when Company F attacked the entrenched enemy on Hill 400, the First Platoon became pinned down by intense automatic weapons fire. Sergeant Case, locating the main source of this fusillade, immediately left the comparative safety of his position and courageously charged the machine gun emplacement, hurling grenades. As a result of this voluntary action, five enemy soldiers were killed and their weapon was destroyed, enabling the platoon to move forward and secure its objective with a minimum of casualties. Sergeant Case’s gallant and aggressive initiative reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
