    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Robert J. Caputo (ASN: 32745146), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the Medical Detachment, 1301st Engineer General Service Regiment, in France. Private Caputo displayed great courage in attempting to save a drowning soldier at the Uckange Bridge Site on the Moselle River on 31 January 1945. His heroism and unselfish devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
